Synopsis
When two frustrated London housewives decide to rent a villa, San Salvatore, in Italy for a holiday away from their bleak marriages, they recruit two very different English women to share the cost and the experience. There, among the wisteria blossoms and Mediterranean sunshine, all four bloom again – rediscovering themselves in ways they – and we – could never have expected.
Parts are available for
Five females and three males – ages range from 20s-60s
The ages can vary from character to character. The women could be married to older men. This would be appropriate for the time period of England in 1922. The Great War was over by four years and many women did marry someone older. Much of the younger male population had gone abroad to fight and sadly did not return. However, the auditions themselves will be the ultimate deciding factor on the age ranges of the characters.
British accents are a MUST with the exception of Costanza who, of course, must speak with an Italian accent.
Character descriptions
Lotty Wilton – a seemingly down-trodden housewife who instigates the idea of renting the villa in Italy, she is the most romantic and adventurous of the four
Rose Arnott – another housewife befriended by Lotty and convinced by her to join her in the journey to Italy, very proper and somewhat repressed
Caroline Bramble – the most modern of the women, she has achieved a certain level of notoriety and is now searching for a way to distance herself
Mrs. Graves – the oldest of the four, her upbringing was during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, demanding and forthright
Costanza – the Italian housemaid at San Salvatore, she only speaks Italian and serves as a foil to Mrs. Graves
Mellersh Wilton – Lotty’s husband, opposed to Lotty traveling to Italy and oblivious to his wife’s plight
Frederick Arnott – Rose’s husband, a romantic novelist (pen name Florian Ayers), feels as if he’s lost a connection with his wife
Antony Wilding – owner of San Salvatore, artistic and upbeat

Updated Times to help 'Fences'
We need more help. A great way to meet new people and work on a show is to help with set construction. And you can help with our next production Fences. It would be greatly appreciated and no experience is required.
All work is being done at the Theatre Huntsville building at 500 Plummer Road in Northwest Huntsville. For additional information contact Mark Eccleston at 694-8575 or by email: meccleston@drs-tem.com (work), meccles551@aol.com (home).

Our Next Show!
Winner of every major award including the Tony and the Pulitzer, Fences by August Wilson tells the story of Troy Maxson, a former star of the Negro baseball leagues. Maxson sees the world as composed mostly of fences which enclose him. Bitter that he was excluded from major league baseball during his prime, Maxson refuses to let his own son try his luck at professional sports. What he doesn’t see is that not all the fences in his life are societal and that he is fencing in his family.
Performances are January 16-17 & 22-24 at 7:30 pm and January 18 & 24, 2009 at 2:00 pm. Produced by Special Arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
